My practice name (The Door’s Open Therapy) reflects my approach to counseling: welcoming, open and judgment free in supporting individuals to overcome the barriers that prevent them from living fully and authentically. I specialize in the LGBTQIA+ community, but work with most mental health concerns. 

It’s normal to be hesitant about therapy! It’s scary to think about sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings with a complete stranger. I think the two things I most want people to know about therapy is 1) this is your space and you get to determine what you share and when and 2) this is a safe space to share because nothing leaves this place and I am accepting you openly and fully as you are with no expectations or judgments. 

I don’t think therapy works without rapport and a strong relational basis. I don’t believe I can ask you to be open about yourself if I’m not also open. I think therapy can include humor, pop culture references, and definitely swearing. I’m not here to judge you but to join you in a personal journey. 

I don’t believe there can be a one size fits all approach to therapy because every person is different. Person centered therapy reflects my belief that the client is the expert in their self and needs. My role is to offer an accepting, genuine, and non critical environment for you to explore and address barriers that are preventing congruence between your inner self and how you present to the world around you.
