What's your experience with clients with depression?
Depression and anxiety affects the lives of millions of Americans. The impact on your daily functioning can be pervasive, often keeping you from being your best self in all areas of life. You may find yourself feeling discouraged or overwhelmed when it comes to reducing the symptoms of depression anxiety. You’ve probably tried everything from self-help books, to church, to meditation, or even self-medicating. In the end, the lack of results left you feeling hopeless and maybe even worthless, attributing all the blame to yourself. Allow me to shift that blame to the disorder and not you. There are many different causes for depression and anxiety disorders to include chemical imbalance, trauma, interpersonal conflict, genetics, and grief. Just as there are many causes for depression and anxiety, there are also many solutions. Together, we will work to identify the root cause of your depression/anxiety symptoms and develop strategies to reduce them. There is hope. You can heal.
Sometimes, despite your best efforts, the challenges of life can make you feel anxious, stressed, helpless, and overwhelmed. It is during these times that you need extra support and new coping skills. It takes great courage to reach out for help. Finding the right counselor is an important first step on your journey to overall wellness and personal growth. As your counselor, I will help you process your life experiences in a way that leads to increased confidence and self-esteem, and a greater capacity to effectively navigate the complex challenges of your life.

How do you work with clients with depression?
When working with clients with depression, I focus on understanding their specific symptoms and experiences. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier perspectives. Additionally, I incorporate mindfulness and behavior activation to help clients re-engage in activities that bring joy and purpose. I also collaborate on creating personalized coping strategies, and when necessary, discuss medication options to support their recovery. My goal is to help clients find relief and build resilience for long-term well-being.
Hello, I'm Laura Meade, a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I specialize in providing compassionate psychiatric care through telehealth services. I have diverse experience working with children, adults, and seniors across various settings including outpatient care, substance abuse treatment, and crisis residential environments. Previously, I've supported the elderly in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers working in the psychiatric field. I've also worked in correctional psychiatry, offering essential mental health services in a maximum-security prison. My experience also includes working in federally qualified health centers, providing psychiatric care regardless of a patient's insurance status, and offering Medication Assisted Therapy for substance use disorders. Before diving into psychiatric care, I worked in dialysis as a Registered Nurse, both in hospital settings and by providing home-based education and support. This varied background helps me understand and cater to the unique needs of patients from all walks of life. Education has been a cornerstone of my career. I am on the path to earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Maryville University, with graduation anticipated in December 2024. How do you work with clients with depression?
My approach to working with clients experiencing depression is rooted in holistic, patient-focused care.
