How do you work with clients with depression?
I work with clients with depression by first creating a safe, supportive space where they can talk openly about what they are experiencing without feeling judged. Depression can affect energy, motivation, relationships, self-worth, and hope, so I help clients identify what feels most difficult and take small, manageable steps toward healing. My approach may include exploring painful thoughts and emotions, building coping skills, strengthening support systems, and understanding how grief, trauma, infertility, or life transitions may be contributing to depression. I work at the client’s pace and focus on helping them feel less alone, more supported, and more connected to themselves.
I have been in the field of social work for over 20 years and currently hold a clinical license in social work. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working closely with children and families, supporting them through many different life challenges and transitions. Over time, my work has grown into a deep passion for helping women and couples who are struggling with infertility, pregnancy loss, and the emotional weight that often comes with these experiences. These journeys can bring feelings of grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, isolation, and uncertainty, and I strive to provide a compassionate space where clients feel understood, supported, and not alone. I also hold a certificate in Maternal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International, which has strengthened my ability to support clients through reproductive and perinatal mental health concerns. My approach is warm, supportive, and client-centered, helping individuals and couples process their experiences, build coping tools, and move forward with greater hope and emotional resilience.

How do you work with clients with depression?
I work with clients with depression by first creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where they feel comfortable sharing what they are going through. Depression can affect mood, energy, sleep, motivation, relationships, and day-to-day functioning, so I take time to understand the full picture of each person’s symptoms, stressors, history, and goals. From there, I use a collaborative approach to develop a treatment plan that may include education, supportive therapy, coping strategies, lifestyle guidance, and medication management when appropriate. My goal is to help clients feel heard while also giving them practical tools to move toward healing. I believe treatment works best when it is personalized, because depression can look different for everyone. By building a strong therapeutic relationship and maintaining open communication, I help clients track progress, address setbacks, and make thoughtful adjustments along the way so they can begin to feel more stable, hopeful, and empowered.
Shialla Warren, APRN, PMHNP-BC, has consistently demonstrated a profound interest in psychiatry and the mental well-being of individuals, both in her personal and professional pursuits. How do you work with clients with depression?
I approach depression by first listening carefully and understanding how it has been affecting your life, not just checking off symptoms. My goal is to give you clarity on the diagnosis because depression often overlaps with other conditions that get missed. I am very intentional with medications. If we decide to use them, I explain exactly what the medication is doing, why I am recommending it, and what to expect so that nothing feels hidden or rushed. I always encourage questions and will answer them directly. My role is to make sure you are fully informed so you can make decisions for yourself. Treatment is a partnership, and I will guide you with compassion, attention to detail, and honesty at every step.
Sean Kim, is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who provides compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care. As a PMHNP, he is licensed to diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe and manage medications, and provide ongoing treatment; with emphasis on whole-person, patient-centered care. He specializes in treating ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. Currently, serving patients in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, and throughout Los Angeles County. For those outside the South Bay, He also offers secure tele-health appointments anywhere in California. His approach blends thorough psychiatric evaluation, thoughtful medication management, and integrative strategies to help you feel like yourself again, focused, balanced, and confident in your daily life. He created Lumina Wellness to transform psychiatric care by providing personalized, high-quality treatment that is both accessible and sustainable. He believes patients deserve more than rushed five-minute appointments; they deserve thoughtful, individualized care where their needs are heard and respected. By accepting insurance without compromising quality, we are changing the way medication management is done, making comprehensive mental health care available to everyone while maintaining the highest standards of compassion and clinical excellence.

How do you work with clients with depression?
I work with clients with depression by taking time to understand both what they are feeling emotionally and how those symptoms are affecting daily life. Depression can show up in many ways, including low mood, loss of motivation, fatigue, hopelessness, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep or appetite, and feeling disconnected from yourself or others. I use a collaborative, whole-person approach that considers mental health, physical health, life stressors, and overall functioning. When appropriate, I provide medication management and make sure clients understand their options, what to expect, and how treatment may support long-term stability. My goal is to offer care that is practical, respectful, and personalized, so clients feel supported while working toward feeling more balanced, engaged, and like themselves again.
I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and founder of Open Chair Psychiatry & Mental Wellness. I provide telehealth psychiatric medication management for adults across Ohio with a focus on accessible, practical, and collaborative mental health care. My background in nursing and advanced psychiatric practice allows me to take a whole-person approach, recognizing how mental health, physical health, lifestyle, and life stressors interact. I believe treatment works best when patients feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions about their care. I have experience treating depression, anxiety disorders, mood instability, and other complex psychiatric conditions. My practice focuses primarily on medication management while emphasizing education and practical strategies that support long-term stability. I aim to expand access to quality psychiatric care for adults throughout Ohio, including those in communities with limited mental health resources.
