Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I started working in the mental health field over 17 years ago, working as a direct support professional for people with intellectual disabilities. I quickly fell in love with helping people, and from there have worked with several populations, including kids/teens, addiction, severe mental health, and finally settling on working with adults. Working with people through there challenges and finding themselves has been so rewarding and meaningful, and I couldn't imagine doing anything else
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Therapy is an investment in yourself and looks different for everyone. A good therapist will allow you space to be you and to connect with yourself, and that will be different depending on you. It is a place to say what you need say, how you need to say it, free from agenda or judgement. It isn't head shrinking, therapy will not change you anymore than you want to change, and it isn't to fix you (primarily because I believe you are not broken).
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
