I am Agather Onyango, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). My areas of interest include mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorders, as well as anxiety disorders like PTSD, generalized anxiety, and panic disorders, and ADHD.
As a nurse practitioner, I believe that addressing mental health and well-being is just as important as addressing physical concerns. I believe in addressing both mental and physical well-being and offer individualized, patient-centered treatment plans tailored to your unique needs. My approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and understanding, with the goal of empowering you to take an active role in your treatment. How does mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT) work and how can it help?
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines mindfulness practices with cognitive therapy. It helps clients become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, prevents relapse, and enhances overall well-being by promoting self-awareness and emotional resilience.
How do you work with clients with depression?
When working with clients with depression, I provide a holistic, compassionate approach that includes a thorough assessment, medication management if needed, and therapy. I use person-centered care, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing to help clients manage symptoms, develop coping skills, and feel supported in a safe environment. Regular follow-ups ensure ongoing progress and adjustments to the treatment plan as needed.
How do you work with clients with ADHD?
When working with clients with ADHD, I provide a personalized approach that includes thorough assessment, medication management, and behavioral strategies. I help clients develop coping skills for focus and organization, using techniques like mindfulness and motivational interviewing. Collaboration with other providers and regular follow-ups ensure ongoing support and adjustments to the treatment plan for optimal results.
How can you provide care remotely?
I provide remote care through secure telehealth services, offering virtual consultations, assessments, and follow-up sessions. This allows for flexibility and confidentiality while maintaining high-quality treatment. I can evaluate conditions, manage medications, and provide therapy using approaches like person-centered care, mindfulness-based therapy, and Christian counseling, ensuring comprehensive support from the comfort of your home.
How does person-centered therapy work and how can it help?
Person-centered therapy creates a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients feel heard and valued. It helps by encouraging self-exploration, fostering a trusting relationship, empowering clients to make their own decisions, and promoting personal growth and self-awareness. This approach supports emotional well-being and positive change.
