Hi, I'm Amanda 'Mandy' Schramm! I have been working in the field for eight years and providing therapy for three. I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Psychology from Sam Houston State University as well as a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University. I have many years of experience working with adolescents in residential settings as well as inpatient settings. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults to help them navigate through life (it definitely doesn't come with a handbook!) and meet them where they are. One size does not fit all in counseling, so I pull from different approaches to provide clients with a unique experience tailored for them.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I initially did not have a desire to be a counselor until I started working with youth at a residential center. I found that I had a passion to help teens become their best selves and break the cycles of violence and abuse in their life to pave the way for a successful future. Since going back to school and practicing mental health counseling, I've found that I enjoy helping my clients find their "aha" moment. Life is hard no matter who you are, and I want my clients to feel that they are in a safe space to process anything that is causing them distress and do so in a judgement-free zone.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Everyone needs therapy, even therapists! You don't have to have a formal mental health diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Life can be unpredictable and we can find ourselves in phases of life that feel too difficult to handle at times. Sometimes you need very focused interventions to identify and process "big feelings" and sometimes you just need someone to listen.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I do my best to be authentic with my clients. I like to use humor in my practice while also helping my clients realize that they are not alone when it comes to having to handle the hard things in life.
