About Anthony J.

Hello! I'm a passionate and experienced Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) running my own private practice, Feel Better & Co., since January 2024. My journey in healthcare has taken me across various roles and locations, allowing me to gain diverse experience in both mental and physical health care. I started as a Registered Nurse, working in renowned institutions like the Cleveland Clinic-Akron General, and took on travel assignments in California, Virginia, Washington DC, New Jersey, New York, and even Hawaii. I’ve worked in Med/Surg Telemetry, stepdown units, ICU, and on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of patient care and the varied needs across different healthcare environments. I advanced my career with a Master's focused on psychiatric and mental health and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. As an NP, I’ve worked across Washington, California, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Ohio, serving patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings, from community health centers to psychiatric units and urgent care. Currently, I provide telehealth services in California and Washington, making mental health support more accessible. I also have the pleasure of working alongside the wonderful therapy group, Empower, in Poland, Ohio, where we collaborate to provide comprehensive and compassionate care. My approach is always centered on you, the patient. I believe in taking the time to understand your unique story and creating a care plan that truly fits your needs. I'm here to help you on your journey to better mental health and well-being. Let’s take that first step together

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I became a therapist because I’ve always had a deep desire to help people, especially when it comes to mental and emotional well-being. My journey in healthcare, from working in ICUs during the pandemic to psychiatric care, showed me just how crucial mental health is to overall well-being. I wanted to play a part in helping people heal from within. What motivates me to continue is seeing the progress my patients make. Watching someone who came to me feeling overwhelmed, gradually regain their confidence, find balance, and take control of their life is incredibly rewarding. Every person’s journey is unique, and being able to guide and support people through their struggles, while helping them find their strength, keeps me passionate about the work I do every day.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

I understand that taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting, but I want you to know that therapy is a place where you can truly be yourself without fear of judgment. It’s not about being “broken” or needing to be fixed—it’s about having someone who will listen, support, and guide you through whatever you’re experiencing. Everyone has struggles, and therapy is simply a tool to help you manage those challenges in a healthy, constructive way. You don’t have to go through it alone. I wish I could tell everyone who’s hesitant that therapy is an empowering experience, where you get to understand yourself better and gain skills that will help improve your well-being. Even if you’re unsure, taking that first step could open doors to a healthier, more fulfilled version of yourself.

What do therapy sessions with you look like?

Therapy sessions with me are all about creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. During our sessions, I focus on active listening and understanding your unique story. I’ll guide the conversation with compassion, asking insightful questions to help you explore the challenges you’re facing. We’ll work together to identify goals, whether it’s managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or navigating life’s stressors, and I’ll introduce evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness practices to help you along the way. My approach is always collaborative—I’m here to partner with you on your journey to better mental health, and every step of the process is tailored to your needs.
