These approaches allow me to more fully understand important components of a client’s life and their impact. How do you work with clients with relationship issues?
Relationship issues can be all-consuming. I utilize an evidence based approach with clients called, interpersonal psychotherapy. It is an approach which allows my clients to not only heal from current or past hurt from relationship issues, it also allows my clients to make resolution in their current relationships and become better communicators (communicating needs, wants, boundaries). If you want to have a therapeutic experience that not only changes how you feel on the inside but also leads to progress in your relationships, let's schedule our first session!
How do you work with clients with depression?
First of all, I am well aware of the daily challenges that arise for someone working through symptoms of depression. It can feel hopeless at times, and absolutely draining. My approach is all about helping my clients to get their power back over depression and find hope again. I utilize an empathic, non-judgmental approach, rooted in trauma informed practices that is aimed to help your brain and body work through the depression, and enhance your confidence in yourself to get to a place where the world is no longer as heavy as it is right now. I utilize evidence-based practices, and as a professor and researcher, I am always learning and being trained in the latest approaches to therapy.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
The point of therapy is not to be judged. It is actually a non-judgmental space where you can share your hopes, fears, worries, and dreams all with the means of feeling better! Tell yourself to just try it out 3 times, then, you have set a goal to try it out. Also, it is ok to tell your therapist what you want or what you need if you realize something does not sit well with you! You and your therapist are working together for your best interest.
