About Barbara

I believe that even in the darkest of times, through the power of connection, we can find the strength within to overcome and build a life worth living. Hello, my name is Char Bentley and I would like to be that therapist to connect with you and support you as you build that life. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with over 18 years of clinical experience. Most of my professional experience has focused on assisting those who struggle with the aftermath of trauma, but I also have extensive experience working with military members, veterans, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, parenting, grief and loss, and phase of life problems. I am eager to continue my pursuit of supporting others as they overcome obstacles, strengthen resiliency, and create a fulfilling life.

Approaches · Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

How does cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) work, and what do sessions look like?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify patterns that may be contributing to distress and work toward developing healthier, more balanced ways of thinking and responding. Sessions are collaborative and practical, often including discussion of current challenges, learning coping strategies, practicing new skills, and applying what you learn between sessions.
Approaches · Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)

How does prolonged exposure therapy work, and what do sessions look like?

Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy is a trauma-focused approach that helps you gradually face and process painful memories, situations, or feelings that you may have been avoiding. With guidance and support, sessions typically involve learning about trauma responses, practicing breathing and coping skills, and gradually working through traumatic memories and avoided situations at a pace that feels manageable. The goal is to reduce the power trauma has over your daily life and help you feel more confident, safe, and in control.
