EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an empirically evidenced technique that has been shown to significantly help clients of trauma, grief, PTSD, addiction, phobias and many other issues by utilizing bi-lateral stimulation that mimics a REM sleep cycle. Disturbing events are able to be “reprocessed” thus lessening and many times diminishing negative cognitions and feelings. Bri has also worked as a Psychology professor, at a local polygraph credentialing and assessment center teaching Psychology classes as well as classes on administering polygraph assessments to convicted sex offenders. Bri has taught students from all over the globe! Opening a practice that is warm, open, comfortable and non-judgmental was imperative in the formation of Mandala Counseling Services. Bri prides herself in being able to build rapport and establish long lasting therapeutic relationships with her clients. She strives for the perfect balance of professionalism and genuine care and compassion for her clients. She loves animals, is a Reiki Master, enjoys Transcendental Meditation, traveling and of course... Batman. For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Almost every client that was ever hesitant about starting therapy, has reported that they’re SO GLAD that they did! Contacting us is the hardest part! You’ll be glad you did though!
What's your experience with clients with trauma or abuse?
EMDR is an incredibly powerful way to work through your trauma. You wont forget it happened, but after the treatment, you’ll be able to talk and think about it without emotional dysregulation. Similarly to if I asked you what you had for lunch yesterday… You could tell me about your trauma with that little disturbance. It’s pretty incredible!
What's your experience with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)?
EMDR is the closest thing to real *MAGIC* that I’ve ever had the privilege of helping people with! It still amazes me sometimes!
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I am a very client centered therapist. My relationship with my client is the most important thing for me. I’ve been told I make people feel comfortable and that’s a wonderful compliment!
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
We’ll probably spend the first few minutes just checking in. Don’t be surprised if I ask about your kids, mom or your pup. Then we go where YOU want to go. We have a plan of goals and objectives and we tackle whatever you feel like you need support with!
What's your experience with relationship counseling?
I think the most important thing is for all boundaries to be set in the very beginning. No surprises! Also that the clients know that their relationship is my “client”… not either of the people individually. I’ll do what I feel is best for the relationship!
What's your experience working with issues in sex and sexuality?
Much of my clinical background is working with clients with a sexual abuse/trauma history. I’ve worked with adults and children who have been perpetrated against. For that reason, I know that many sexual issues or problematic behaviors may stem from at one point being a victim of sexual abuse. I am compassionate and assertive at the same time.
