About Caitlin

Hello! I'm Caitlin Hill, your dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a passion for empowering individuals and families to overcome life's challenges. With a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a rich background in psychology from Kent State University, I bring a wealth of knowledge and compassionate care to my practice. My journey began in the military where I served as an active-duty officer, honing my leadership skills and learning the value of resilience. This experience has been instrumental in understanding the unique needs of military families, which I've addressed in professional conferences, highlighting virtual interventions for postpartum depression and anxiety among military spouses. I specialize in supporting adults with severe mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each individual, utilizing evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and Solution-Focused Therapy. Whether you're a veteran seeking support or anyone looking to build healthier coping strategies, I'm here to guide you through your journey with empathy and expertise. Outside the counseling room, I have trained in EMDR therapy as well as Level 2 Natural Lifemanship for Equine Assisted Psychotherapy – because sometimes healing goes beyond traditional methods. Let's connect and start crafting your path to wellness together. Your story matters, and I'm here to listen.

How does cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) work and how can it help?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a goal-directed approach that assists individuals in identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. Cognitive restructuring and behavioral modification are two techniques used in CBT to promote self-awareness, coping skills, and long-term change. It is effective for a variety of mental health conditions and provides clients with tools for stress management and overall well-being.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?

When working with anxious clients, I tailor my approach to meet their specific needs. This includes investigating triggers and symptoms, incorporating techniques such as CBT and mindfulness, providing psychoeducation, and developing individualized coping strategies. Collaboration and support are essential as we work together to reduce anxiety and improve overall well-being.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

As a therapist, I was drawn to this profession by a deep-seated desire to support individuals in navigating life's challenges and empowering them to lead fulfilling lives. Witnessing the resilience and growth of my clients is incredibly rewarding and fuels my passion for this work. What motivates me to continue is the profound impact therapy can have on people's lives. Seeing my clients make positive changes, gain insight, and develop healthier coping strategies reaffirms my commitment to this field every day. Additionally, the ever-evolving nature of psychology and therapy keeps me engaged and eager to continue learning and growing as a clinician. Ultimately, the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and the continuous personal and professional growth I experience through this work drive me to continue on this path.

How do you work with clients with depression?

When working with clients who are depressed, I use a compassionate and personalized approach. I use techniques such as CBT and mindfulness to help clients understand their depression, challenge negative thought patterns, and develop healthier coping strategies. Psychoeducation and collaborative goal-setting are central to our work together, allowing clients to play an active role in their recovery. Throughout the process, I offer empathy, validation, and encouragement to promote hope and empowerment.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

To those who are hesitant to try therapy, I would want to convey that it's completely understandable to feel apprehensive about seeking help. Taking that first step can be daunting, but it's important to recognize that therapy is a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I wish I could tell them that therapy is not about being "broken" or "weak." It's about gaining insight, developing coping skills, and finding solutions to the challenges you're facing. It's a courageous act of self-care and self-discovery. I would want them to know that therapists are trained professionals who are here to listen, validate your experiences, and provide guidance and support as you work towards your goals. You have the power to create positive change in your life, and therapy can be a valuable tool on that journey. Lastly, I would emphasize that you don't have to face your struggles alone. Asking for help is a sign of strength, and therapy can offer you the support and resources you need to navigate life's ups and downs with resilience and confidence.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

If you're thinking about working with me, know that I provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment in which we can collaborate to meet your specific needs and goals. I'm committed to empowering you to overcome life's obstacles and achieve greater well-being by using evidence-based techniques. I take a collaborative approach, drawing on evidence-based techniques such as CBT and EMDR to assist you in gaining insight, developing coping skills, and making positive changes in your life. How does couples therapy work and how can it help?

Couples therapy involves a trained therapist helping a couple address relationship issues and improve communication, understanding, and satisfaction. Through exercises and techniques, couples learn to express needs, resolve conflicts, build trust, and strengthen their relationship. It provides a supportive environment for addressing specific issues and creating a healthier partnership.

How can you provide care remotely?

I offer remote care using secure video conferencing platforms, with the same level of support and expertise as in-person sessions. Remote therapy allows us to connect from any private location, allowing for greater scheduling flexibility while maintaining confidentiality. It is a convenient and effective way to obtain therapeutic support regardless of location.
