About Chantal

Many of the people that I work with are use to taking care of other people while pushing down their own feelings and challenging experiences. Many of the people I work with struggle to share, often reporting feeling like a "burden" or that they "have to be the strong one." The people that I work with often have had to be stronger than they should have had to be. Having a space to talk about and focus on you is what I provide.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I decided when I was very young that I wanted to be a therapist.  At that time my thought was, "everyone deserve at least one person that will listen to them," this thoughts still reigns true, with the addition that I now help people build communities so that they have more than one person and feel connected and supported.

What's your experience with clients with depression?

Whether you have struggled with depression throughout your life or in this current season I am able to support you in learning and practicing new skills to help with moving towards a life worth living.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

Finding the right fit is the most important aspect of therapy.  If you do not feel safe or comfortable with your therapist then they may not be the right fit for you.  Therapy takes some discomfort, especially if you are not use to opening up and being vulnerable.  Give your self a chance to be uncomfortable for a few minutes because of risk are worth taking.

Why is trauma processing important?

There are many different times of trauma, and understanding how your experience(s) have impacted the way you engage in the world and with others can be really impactful.  Understanding what protective mechanism you use and ways to decrease the ineffective ones is usually beneficial.  Having a space to talk about what you've experienced and creating an internal sense of safety helps to increase a feeling of safety in the world and in healthy relationships.

What's your experience with internal family systems (IFS)?

Engaging in parts work has been beneficial for the people I work with.  Understanding your protective and hurt parts has the ability to move people towards healing and peace.  I am IFS Level 1 trained therapist, and use this method with my clients.

How can you provide care remotely?

I am able to provide individual and family therapy sessions virtually.  I do not currently provide couples or marital therapy.

What's your experience with clients with eating disorders?

Working with persons who struggle with eating disorders or disordered eating, as well as body image is a passion of mine.  Helping clients understand what the behavior(s) may be doing for you and finding more effective ways to meet the need helps to relieve the challenges that these symptoms can bring.  Improving your relationship with food, your body, and your self move clients toward more meaningful relationships with others and improvement engagement in everyday life.
