Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
As a former educator, I worked a lot with not just children, but their caregivers as well. Parents would often share their own personal trauma and life struggles and it was then that I learned the value of being present and holding space for a fellow human being. I saw firsthand how parental attachment shaped so much about the way we all show up in our worlds. My first psychology class answered so many of my “why’s” about mental health issues in my own family and community, so much so that I felt compelled to pursue a Master’s program in Counseling. I’m so grateful that I get to connect and walk alongside others in their brave work towards mental wellness. A lot of the power for healing is in our connectedness and experience of safety and I believe that most people feel they have that in me.
