What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?
CBT is a modality that I still use in therapy mostly with children and adolescents but it does work for all people. I have studied this model since college and used it as well for the past three years mostly with clients who experience lots of anxiety.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I have always had a desire to help people and worked in many different sectors, but it wasn't until I met an LPC while working at CPS who really inspired me and soon after, I started attending college to get my degree.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
I understand your hesitancy and that therapy can be weird if you haven't done it before. I would welcome you to come in and bring your concerns and let's talk about them. Let's work through the hesitancy and understand that in time, those feelings will subside.
Why is trauma processing important?
It is so important because trauma can stay with us for a lifetime if we allow and it is stored in the body. It is important to notice these things about our body and how this trauma is affecting our daily lives and movements. This is where Somatic EMDR can be extremely helpful to clients.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
That I am a very comforting therapist who is extremely compassionate. I will hear you and share with you my input. I want you to feel comfortable and know that you can share anything with me, no judgement here.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
A typical session lasts about 45 minutes and within that session, you will have the opportunity to have either talk therapy, somatic EMDR therapy or sandtray therapy.
How can you provide care remotely?
I see many clients online and I have seen them make great progress just as some of my in-person clients. I use a secure platform and do find that online therapy can be very effective.
What's your experience with family or marital Therapy?
With families and couples, I use more of a structural model and I have worked with couples and families for the past 3 years.
What's your experience with children or adolescents?
I love working with children and adolescents. I use non-directive therapy with this clientele and allow more autonomy with them but can be directive when necessary. I love observing young children in play because it really says so much about their experience. I am also working on getting my Registered Play Therapist certification.
