How do you work with clients with anxiety?

For individuals dealing with anxiety, I conduct a thorough evaluation to identify triggers and underlying factors. Treatment may involve a combination of psychoeducation, coping strategies, and relaxation techniques. I also consider medication options if necessary, tailoring the approach to the individual's specific needs and preferences.

How does cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) work and how can it help?

The Harmonica Psychiatry team offers personalized anxiety treatments tailored to your condition and its severity. Options include: - Solution-focused brief therapy - Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) - Anti-anxiety medication - Lifestyle changes - Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) - Spravato® nasal spray TMS and Spravato are alternative approaches to treating depression that patients with anxiety might benefit from if other therapies aren’t producing results.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I became a therapist to contribute to the improvement of community health. My motivation lies in helping individuals overcome mental health challenges, promoting positive change, and witnessing the transformative impact on their lives. Continuous learning ensures I stay abreast of the latest advancements to serve my clients better.

How do you work with clients with depression?

No matter how low you get, you can recover with the Harmonica Psychiatry team’s help. Psychotherapy techniques help you identify and deal with underlying issues affecting your mental health and learn how to cope with daily challenges. Antidepressant medication increases neurotransmitter production. Harmonica Psychiatry also offers several choices for treatment-resistant depression. Spravato® is a nasal spray containing esketamine; transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive approach that uses magnetic energy to reactivate your brain’s mood center.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

I understand the hesitation, but seeking therapy is a courageous step toward a healthier life. I provide a safe and judgment-free space, tailoring treatment to your unique needs. Together, we can explore and address challenges, fostering personal growth and resilience.

What do therapy sessions with you look like?

Initial Visit (Telehealth) - 35 minutes An initial visit involves a medical history review, an assessment of your specific symptoms and concerns, possible diagnostic tests to evaluate a patient's health, identify issues, develop and discuss treatment options. Follow-up Visit (Telehealth) - 15 minutes A follow-up visit involves checking the progress of the patient's treatment plan, assessing any new symptoms or concerns, and adjusting the treatment plan as needed to ensure optimal health outcomes. Psychotherapy Session (Telehealth) - 40 minutes Medication Refill (Telehealth) A medication refill appointment typically involves a brief review of his/her existing patient's medical history, confirming the need for the medication refill, and issuing a new prescription. It may also involve evaluating any side effects or concerns related to the medication and ensuring that the treatment plan is still appropriate for the patient's needs.

How do you work with clients with ADHD?

Several treatments are available for people with ADHD. My team at Harmonica Psychiatry team typically begins with medication and behavioral therapy. Stimulant medicines boost activity in the areas of your brain controlling behavior and reducing unwanted actions and reactions. Nonstimulants are available for patients who can’t tolerate stimulants or don’t find them effective. If you also have depression or anxiety, antidepressants, and anti-anxiety drugs can help. Behavioral therapy teaches you to recognize the thoughts that trigger unhelpful behaviors and react differently. You also learn coping mechanisms that you use when facing challenges that usually cause problems in daily life. You may also benefit from therapies that help you through difficult experiences like grief or trauma.

How can you provide care remotely?

I leverage tele-psychiatry and technology, using the latest electronic health record systems to ensure accurate and timely documentation. My proficiency in various software tools allows me to provide efficient and secure care, making mental health support accessible from any location.
