How do you work with clients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)?
When working with clients with OCD, I begin by understanding how obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors are affecting their daily life, relationships, and sense of safety. OCD can be deeply distressing, and I approach it with compassion, patience, and without judgment.
My work focuses on helping clients recognize the cycle of intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and compulsive responses. Together, we explore tools to reduce fear-based reactions, build emotional tolerance, and create healthier ways of responding to intrusive thoughts. When appropriate, care may include medication management, psychoeducation, trauma-informed support, and evidence-based strategies that help clients feel more grounded and in control.
The goal is not to shame the thoughts or force quick change, but to help clients understand their experience, reduce the power OCD has over their life, and move toward greater confidence, stability, and peace.
How does psychodynamic therapy work and how can it help?
Psychodynamic therapy helps clients better understand how past experiences, early relationships, and unconscious patterns may be influencing their current emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Instead of only focusing on symptoms, this approach explores the deeper roots of distress and helps bring awareness to patterns that may be repeated over time.
In my work, psychodynamic therapy can help clients understand why certain emotions feel overwhelming, why specific relationship patterns keep showing up, or why they may feel stuck despite wanting change. With greater insight and self-awareness, clients can begin to respond to themselves and others with more clarity, compassion, and choice. This approach can be especially helpful for anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, relationship challenges, and long-standing emotional patterns.
