Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I have always wanted to help people. Soon after starting therapy for the first time in my own life, I felt a new type of excitement: I had a strong sense of worth because of my own healing. I wanted everyone to experience this same empowerment I felt in life! So I decided to continue my education & become a therapist, to provide a safe space for others to learn to love themselves--just like my therapist had provided for me.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

I remember how uncomfortable and difficult it was for me to start therapy for the first time. It took a few months before I could be fully vulnerable with myself and my therapist, because I was scared to face some aspects of my life. There were times when I wanted to cancel my therapy sessions because I knew that the work would be uncomfortable. But as I continued, I was surprised that despite the discomfort, each session & week brought more understanding and more control over my emotions & life. Therapy is hard work! But it is so, so worth it.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

I am a therapist, but I am a human. I bring very human aspects into my therapy sessions. I value humor--it is an important part of my personality, so I incorporate it into my therapy sessions in an authentic way. I also make mistakes! I am learning & growing, and I try to model this in the therapy room with you. I'll take accountability, and I'll correct statements after saying them. I am very relational, so I'll ask for you to provide feedback to me about how certain things sit with you, or how you are impacted by aspects of our relationship. It only seems fair, since I am providing feedback to you as I challenge you throughout the therapy process. And most of all, I have a gift of seeing others: I can quickly notice others' strengths & their unique abilities. I will be sure to let you know what I see in you, and try to find ways for you to notice those same things in yourself, too.
