What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?
CBT is a corner stone in talk therapy. Life can create cognitive beliefs that limit and hinder us in unconscious ways. Developing aware of cognitive distortions is often a first step mental freedom.
CBT has it’s limitations and this is why I utilize other modalities such as ACT and DBT.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I’ve always considered it a privilege to support individuals, families, and communities. My experience working in case management and healthcare, created a desire to work more closely with clients in pursuing their unique healing and success.
I personally can relate to my clients. I know finding a good fit in therapy can be a challenging process. I strive to offer a collaborative therapeutic experience uniquely tailored to the needs and goals of each client.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
When things are challenging, the thought of “starting therapy” can feel like “another thing to do”… and let’s be honest, finding the right therapist can be awkward.
At the same time, connecting with a supportive unbiased professional can make a world of difference. Life can be a lot and therapy offers a safe place to process experiences and learn skills to have a healthier more fulfilling life.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I consider therapy as a collaborative compassionate process. I don’t aim to fix clients. Healing isn’t always a linear process and it definitely isn’t instant. Healing takes time and intention, but you don’t have to do it alone.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
A typical session consists of identifying and addressing a client’s concerns. This may include identifying values, goal setting, emotional awareness, processing trauma, and skill development.
I strive to bring sincerity, thoughtfulness, and nonjudgmental curiosity to session. I also offer humor and a light hearted but reverent approach to engaging clients.
How can you provide care remotely?
Remotes sessions offer flexibility for clients who otherwise may not be able to access services due to geographic and scheduling limitations.
What's your experience with children or adolescents?
I current only work with adults.
