What's your experience with children or adolescents?

For over 20 years, I have worked with children and families.  I have treated teens, tweens, children, and young children.  The key to success in treatment is not only to understand children or teens but also to partner with parents.  When parents are supported, children function better.  Depending on the child's age and the reason for treatment, I will make recommendations to those most important in their life so adults will know what to expect regarding treatment and outcomes. Children and teens may need help going through a tough time and can't cope alone.  Parenting can be difficult and stressful.  My work actively balances the needs of children or teens with that of parents.  Treatment with me can benefit the whole family as we learn, communicate, and create solutions.  Some sessions will be individual where youth can confidentially play or talk, do activities, practice new skills and solve problems.  Other sessions will require adult-only meetings and sometimes for everyone to meet together. Each family situation is distinct, and the relationship with children or adolescents is my focus to address why therapy is needed.  Throughout the treatment process, I will strive to help parents realize opportunities unique to development, the individual child, and relationships.

What's your experience with play therapy?

Children are natural communicators, and being trained as a play therapist helps me to understand a child's development, unique needs or interests, and relationships. Working with children also helps inform my work with adults who may appreciate the sense of trust and skills I have gained by deeply understanding human development and communication across the lifespan.  Play therapy and talk therapy promote adaptive behavior-- like creativity, rehearsal of skills, and mind-body integration.  Let's talk more about the benefits of play therapy for children or how a playful but respectful approach to working with teens or adults could benefit you and those you love.

What's your experience with integrative therapy?

Therapy is about relationships, not step-by-step formulas. Our work is about process and experience because nobody is born with a manual, and a manualized intervention won't help me specialize in you, your child, or your family. First, I will learn from you as I draw upon various approaches for our benefit. Treatment that is individualized, flexible, and adaptable while offering safety and structure is elemental to my integrative approach.
