About Gayle

I am a licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience in outpatient therapy and hands-on parenting training. I am trained in EMDR which is a therapeutic model for addressing and treating trauma. I have completed certification programs in Child-Parent Psychotherapy, the Circle of Security-Parenting program, hypnosis, and I have national certification as an adoption competent therapist with the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.). Working with women who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety and/or relationship issues is my passion. My goal is to help you to feel understood and validated. I do this by listening to you very carefully, and asking questions to help us figure out what the root cause is for your distress. Once we can identify the root of the issue, we can then figure out how to help you move forward and figure out a plan for facing life’s challenges head on. Many people come to me and tell me that they don’t know where to start or how to explain what’s been going on, and that is totally okay, let the therapist worry about all of that. Let’s work together and figure it out.

What's your experience with clients with anxiety?

Most of my clients struggle with some form of anxiety. I have a lot of experience working with managing anxiety symptoms.

What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

The idea behind CBT is that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. So if you change your thought you'll also change the feeling behind it, and then your behaviors will change as a result. I agree with this, except I also recognize that sometimes our feelings don't match up with our thoughts. I utilize CBT, but I also recognize that sometimes it alone is not effective and other treatment modalities are needed in conjunction with CBT.

What's your experience with dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)?

I utilize aspects of DBT, as I'm very interested in cultivating emotional regulation and mindfulness practices.

What's your experience with clients with depression?

I have worked in the past with clients struggling with Depression, but generally I don't work with this population.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

I totally get how awkward and scary it might seem to open up to a stranger! You never have to talk about something you are uncomfortable talking about, and you should never feel like your therapist is judging you or forcing you to do something you aren't ready to do. Always make sure your therapist is someone you feel comfortable with, and if not - try a different therapist. We aren't going to click with everyone, so find a therapist you do click with.

What's your experience with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)?

I am trained in EMDR and could do EMDR if a client presented with PTSD symptoms.

What's your experience with acceptance and commitment (ACT)?

In ACT clients learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives. I love this and strongly encourage my clients to not have shame for feeling a certain way or doing a certain behavior. Fighting the thought/feeling just makes it come back stronger. Acceptance is key!

What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

First, we see if we are a good therapy match by discussing what you are looking for in therapy and if I am someone who specializes in what could help you. If we decide to move forward, I then get more information about your history and we collaborate on a treatment plan together to help you meet your goals. Treatment plans and goals will be different for each individual, but once we have that, then we could work on meeting those goals in sessions.

What's your experience with relationship counseling?

I work with individuals with relationship challenges, but I don't work with couples.

How can you provide care remotely?

Studies have been done to show that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy. We will do the same things by teletherapy that we would do if we were in-person.

What's your experience with clients with bipolar disorder?

I don't generally work with this population.

What's your experience with children or adolescents?

Although I have a lot of experience working with these populations, I do not currently meet with children or adolescents for therapy sessions.
