About Greg

I really work hard to be creative in therapy learning more and more ways to help people.  Especially people that may to have been helped in the traditional ways that therapy is often done.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I became a therapist because of my experiences with therapy as a young person.  I wanted to help people like I was helped. I am really motivated these days by learning to work more and more outside that typical "therapy" box and do things that would have been ore helpful to me when I was really struggling.  I am really drawn to being creative in therapy and open to all ways of growth and healing.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

Call and talk to someone and see if you like them and like how the imagine working together.  Don't be afraid to call multiple therapists and get a good picture of what is out there. Find what seems like will be a good fit for you and be less stressful.  Therapy is helpful for anyone, but it is work, growth is work, so you want to feel safe and comfortable with who you are working with and how and where you are working.

What's your experience with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)?

When you gain a deeper understanding of trauma and trauma recovery, you start to understand that most of the really effective trauma resolution models have a lot of commonalities.  Some are more risky for re-traumatizing and digging trauma in deeper, some are more time consuming, some are more difficult to do via Telehealth. I have chosen to be certified and to be certified to teach a model called Brief Solution Oriented Trauma Resolution.  I've chosen this model because it has virtually no risk of re-traumatizing an individual, is very quick (2-3 Sessions for single trauma), and can be done via Telehealth with minimal adjustment.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

I use a lot of humor in my work.  I try to be creative and flexible with how I work to fit who I am working with, I won't try to make you fit into the one or two ways I work with people.  I love doing therapy outside and moving; I think people are more comfortable talking when they are moving next to someone and I know I am a better therapist, when I am moving and can be far more creative.

What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

Sessions can look a lot of different ways.  Right now it is virtual, via video or phone, whatever is preferred. We do a lot of working talking about what is going on now and ways to cope and build happiness and self-compassion into your life.  But also I like to talk about the past, because I believe we often get stuck in things from out past and we become reactive to things in our present because of that.  It blows up the relationship with ourselves and with others and those things need to get resolved and healed to get unstuck and move forward to have the relationships we want to have with other and with ourselves.

How can you provide care remotely?

Remote sessions work!  If we are talking about counseling and developing coping skills and building wellbeing, they work.  I have also found the Brief Solution Oriented Trauma Resolution Therapy (BSOTR) I do to be equally effective when done via video; for healing reactiveness from trauma, abuse,  and neglect.
