For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
If you’re feeling hesitant about trying therapy, I want you to know that it’s completely normal to feel this way. Therapy is a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. It’s an opportunity to gain insights into your experiences, develop coping strategies, and work toward healing and growth.
Many people find that talking to a trained professional helps them feel understood and less alone in their struggles. Therapy isn’t just for crises; it can also be a valuable tool for personal development, improving relationships, and enhancing overall well-being.
I encourage you to view therapy as a collaborative journey. You are in control of the process, and your therapist is there to support you in navigating your unique challenges. Taking that first step can be daunting, but it often leads to positive changes and a deeper understanding of yourself. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and you deserve to find the support you need.
What do therapy sessions with you look like?
Therapy sessions with me are structured yet flexible, designed to create a comfortable and supportive environment for clients. At the beginning of our work together, we typically conduct an initial assessment to explore the client's concerns, goals, and any relevant history. This helps us develop a tailored treatment plan.
Each session generally lasts 50 to 60 minutes, during which we engage in open dialogue about the client’s feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I use evidence-based therapeutic techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and other modalities based on the client’s needs.
Throughout our sessions, I encourage clients to express themselves freely, ask questions, and share their progress. We may also work on practical coping strategies and exercises that they can use between sessions. I believe in a collaborative approach, where we regularly review and adjust our goals to ensure that the therapy remains relevant and effective.
Ultimately, my goal is to provide a safe space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
How do you work with clients with anxiety?
When working with clients experiencing anxiety, I use a collaborative, patient-centered approach tailored to their unique needs. I start by conducting a comprehensive assessment to understand the anxiety triggers, symptoms, and personal goals. We then co-create a treatment plan that may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and reframe negative thought patterns, mindfulness practices to build resilience, and, if appropriate, medication management to alleviate symptoms.
Throughout treatment, I prioritize creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and supported. We regularly review progress, adjust strategies as needed, and emphasize practical coping skills that can help manage anxiety in everyday life. This holistic approach empowers clients to build confidence and develop sustainable tools to manage their anxiety and improve overall well-being.
