About Jan

I am a female therapist that treats clients ages 13 and up. I have a passion for working with clients that are adjusting due to life transitions, stress, anxiety, depression, parenting concerns, and relationship struggles. Additionally I work with couples and families as well to create healthy relationships. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to any prospective client because I want my clients to feel I am a good match for them and if I am not, I am happy to make referrals.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I tried out the business world and it did not work for me. It left me feeling empty and without purpose. I was exposed to the career of mental health counseling and fell in love with it. I began my career as a school counselor for 11 years where I provided counseling in schools. From there I bridged my career into the private practice sector where I could focus on a variety of clients and their struggles. When I hear the positive feedback from my clients and families, it drives me to continue knowing I have met my life's purpose.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

Life should be enjoyed and if therapy helps find that joy again, why not. Vulnerability is hard, I know, but finding the right therapist can make that feel less scary.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

My motto is that there is never a bad time to begin again and there is always hope. My goal is help my clients have hope that things can be different and they can regain the joy in life they once had. We are only in control of ourselves, but with that in mind, we can make some drastic changes that can significantly improve our quality of life.

What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

I like to prioritize what my client wants to discuss. I open a session by referring back to our last session, discuss anything of note since we last spoke, and ask the client what is pressing to them. This is their time and I want to ensure that my clients feel that their priorities are my priorities.

How can you provide care remotely?

Telehealth has revolutionized the mental health industry. It has made it more accessible and accommodating. I work nontraditional hours and I can make a schedule that works for my clients with the telehealth platform.
