Hello and thank you for visiting my profile! I am a compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, bringing personalized mental health care to individuals across North Carolina through JD Wellness, LLC with the convenience of telehealth. My daily commitment is to offer empathetic psychiatric evaluations, deeply understand each person's health journey, and meticulously record their progress for consistent care. I shape my professional knowledge of mental health around the belief that everyone deserves easy access to the care and support they need, when they need it. I provide telepsychiatry services for patients with ADHD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and medication management along with various other psychiatric disorders. At JD Wellness, LLC, I have a patient-centered approach to mental health care. I believe the input from patients is crucial to designing an effective and individualized treatment plan for them. Throughout the treatment process, I will collaborate with you to establish a trusting relationship and will approach each individual situation with the utmost empathy, understanding, and compassion. I began my studies at Sampson Community College, earning an Associate Degree in Nursing before completing my Bachelor of Science in nursing at Gardner Webb University. I went on to pursue further education at the University of Phoenix, achieving a Master of Science in nursing (with a concentration in healthcare administration). After obtaining my master’s degree, I completed my Post Master’s Degree at Southern Adventist University where I graduated with honors from their Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner’s program. I am a licensed and board-certified psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and have over 20 years of psychiatric nursing experience working with a vast array of patients suffering from numerous psychiatric disorders.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?

For clients with anxiety, I employ a similar comprehensive approach, integrating evidence-based practices to address their specific needs and concerns. After conducting a detailed assessment to identify anxiety triggers and symptoms, I collaborate with clients to establish personalized treatment goals. Treatment strategies may include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), relaxation techniques, medication management, and stress-reduction exercises. I prioritize patient education and empowerment to help clients gain control over their anxiety and build resilience. Regular follow-up visits enable ongoing assessment and adjustments to the treatment plan to ensure effectiveness and client satisfaction.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner because of my passion for helping others and making a positive impact on their lives. I am dedicated to lifelong learning, professional development, and staying updated on the latest advancements in psychiatric treatment to provide the highest standard of care to my clients. The satisfaction of making a difference in someone's life and helping them navigate their mental health journey continues to inspire and drive me in my practice.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

I would encourage individuals hesitant to try therapy to consider it as a valuable opportunity for self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. Therapy offers a safe and supportive environment to explore emotions, gain insight into thought patterns, and develop effective coping strategies. As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I am here to listen, understand, and support you on your mental health journey, empowering you to overcome challenges and improve your overall well-being. What do therapy sessions with you look like?

Initial Visit (Telehealth) - 60 minutes An initial visit involves a medical history review, an assessment of your specific symptoms and concerns, and possible diagnostic tests to evaluate a patient's health, identify issues, and develop and discuss treatment options. Follow-up Visit (Telehealth) - 30 minutes A follow-up visit involves checking the progress of the patient's treatment plan, assessing any new symptoms or concerns, and adjusting the treatment plan as needed to ensure optimal health outcomes. Medication Refill (Telehealth) - 30 minutes A medication refill appointment typically involves a brief review of his/her existing patient's medical history, confirming the need for the medication refill, and issuing a new prescription. It may also involve evaluating any side effects or concerns related to the medication and ensuring that the treatment plan is still appropriate for the patient's needs.

How do you work with clients with ADHD?

With clients diagnosed with ADHD, I employ a comprehensive approach that considers the biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors impacting their condition. I conduct a thorough assessment to understand the specific symptoms and challenges they are facing. Collaborative goal setting is integral to developing an individualized treatment plan tailored to their needs, which may include medication management, behavioral therapy strategies, and lifestyle modifications. Patient education and empowerment are prioritized to help clients and their families better understand ADHD, manage symptoms effectively, and improve daily functioning. Regular monitoring through follow-up visits ensures that the treatment plan is optimized for each individual's progress and needs.
