About Jenna

Focusing on your mental health is the keystone for overall health and wellbeing, and you are doing the hardest part by just having the desire to start therapy. You are making a huge investment in yourself that will provide you with incredible emotional dividends. Clients describe my style as safe, warm, genuine, and authentic. I like to infuse sessions with humor, but only when appropriate. My goal is to create a safe space with a nonjudgmental and compassionate approach, which allows you to explore and change patterns and behaviors in your life that no longer serve you. Not only will we make sense of these behaviors, but I will also help you gain insight and interpret the deeper meaning of significants situations in your life. I believe YOU are the expert in your own life and YOU are in the driver seat. I am sitting in the passenger side, offering you guidance and tools to help navigate through challenging terrain. I have six years of experience, working with adults throughout a variety of issues such as anger management, addiction, codependency, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship problems, and a high focus on trauma. It is critical that you feel compatible and comfortable with a therapist. With this in mind, I offer a free 20-minute consultation to help determine if we are the right fit for each other. Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

My experience with a family member's suicide along with my own childhood trauma and mental health struggles inspired me to seek out more knowledge on what I was experiencing. My personal healing motivated me to make a career in helping others struggling through similar issues. I find it incredibly rewarding when I can help another person in need.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

There is absolutely no shame in seeking out help, everyone needs help. You are human, you have feelings, you are worthy of self-care. I worked in correctional facilities for 6 years and I've worked with the toughest of the tough- even those guys admitted that therapy was helpful for them.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

I tend to be quirky and funny but kind and compassionate. The number one thing I hear from clients is that they feel safe when they are in session with me. I tend to be goal-oriented and "homework" based with clients but I never berate clients for not completing all of the tasks for the week. Instead, I support and praise clients for making the small accomplishments because positive reinforcement is much more effective than punishment. Those small accomplishments lead to the big accomplishments!

What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

I like to spend the first few sessions getting to know a client. I don't feel it's necessary for a client to reveal all of the intimate details of their life right off the bat. Therefore, I tend to have a gentle approach and I leave it up to the client on what they want to talk about for that session. Let's work on building a rapport first- once you're comfortable, we can start to unpack the bigger stuff that has had an affect on your life.
