Couples Therapy

How does couples therapy work and how can it help?

I'm married, I'm a mom and step-mom. I've been divorced, co-parented, all of it and nailed it! Not really. These transitions take work. Marriage is difficult and takes work as well so let's work on it. I have trained in couples therapy and am able to offer pre-marital counseling.
Approaches · Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

How does cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) work and how can it help?

CBT is a great go to or starting point for therapy. I love helping people see how altering thought processes and/or behaviors can change their overall perspective. And I love worksheets!
About Me

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I was raised in a Caribbean household where mental health treatment was a non issue. I became a therapist because I understand what it's like to seek non-existent help. Emotions exist and they're hard but I can help people cope with the messy stuff.
About Me

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

I will be the first to tell anybody...therapy sucks! You are paying someone to rip off bandbaids and knock down perfectly formed and built defense walls, it almost doesn't make sense. It's worth it, it hurts but it's worth it.
Specialties · Grief

How do you work with clients with grief?

So here's the thing, everyone experiences grief differently. In my own family, I am mom/stepmom of 6 and one heavenly stepdaughter. I have seen my husband and stepchildren process their grief in multiple ways. I have worked in Oncology and assisted people with anticipatory grief. Grief is more than after death. Grief can be experienced due to different types of losses as we know. If it helps, I have a certification in grief counseling as well.
