For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
I completely understand the hesitancy associated with therapy. It’s a brave step to seek mental health help. I do everything in my power to put the client at ease and believe genuineness and mutual regard are at the heart of a therapeutic relationship.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
My counseling sessions are 50 minutes long on a HIPPA compliant Telehealth platform. This way, you can access therapy from the comfort of your home. I am very much a person-centered therapist and believe that the client should have a say in therapy goals and the assessment of those goals. In the first 2 sessions, I will information gather and you will leave the session with coping tools. By the third session we should have a solid treatment plan in place.
What's your experience with children or adolescents?
I am very familiar with counseling adolescents. I was a teacher for 10 years and a middle school counselor for 5 years. I counsel adolescents 12-17 years old as well as adults and work primarily with issues of anxiety, stress, self-image, body image issues, trauma and PTSD.
