What's your experience with mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT)?
There is a quote that is commonly attributed to Lao Tzu: "If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present."
I love this quote even if it is a little problematic. Of course, there is more to depression and anxiety than where you are 'living'. Even so, this quote does show just how important our thoughts and awareness is and how they impact our experiences.
Mindfulness is all about being more aware of ourselves, our thoughts, our experiences, our feelings, and just more aware in general. There is so much to life on Earth that we miss because we are stressing about the things we have to take care of as well as what we have already experienced. When we are able to pull ourselves out of the stress of tomorrow and the trauma of yesterday, we are able to find moments of peace in the present. Those moments are always there, waiting for us to take hold of them. Even if for just a few moments at a time.
I thoroughly enjoy the times when I get to utilize Mindfulness in session. There are certainly some individuals who just do not find this subject interesting, that's ok. For the most part, the people that get introduced to the subject of Mindfulness, find it very relaxing and helpful for relieving stress.
