Hello, my name is Jessica and I am a marriage and family therapist in California. I specialize in offering trauma-informed care. I am bilingual in Spanish. I work with children, teenagers and adults.
My approach is client-centered and integrates CBT and DBT interventions that will help clients to challenge negative thinking patterns and identify healthy coping skills that are sustainable for them.
How does child or adolescent therapy work and how can it help?
When working with kids and teens, I am not another person with authority trying to tell them what to do. Rather, I am here to listen, validate and empower my young clients, sharing tools that will help navigate life, even into adulthood.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I had a very turbulent childhood and dealt with anxiety and depression as an adolescent. Having people invest in me, believe in me and see past the behaviors really helped me get better and heal. I hope to be a support for others going through hard seasons...
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Trying something new can be scary. Maybe you had a bad experience with health care in the past and I get that. Ultimately, therapy is about you, the client. Ask yourself, is the potential long-lasting benefit worth the temporary discomfort?
How does christian counseling work and how can it help?
Christian counseling is just therapy with a biblical perspective.
For practicing Christians, it is so important to receive counsel from other believers who will point you back to your faith, not into the world or your own strength. We will go at a pace that you are comfortable with and I can follow your leading.
How do you work with clients with pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum issues?
Preparing for change can be anxiety provoking. As women, we have such complex emotional lives and our identities change through motherhood. Talking about the stress, mourning the loss of your old life and processing through your emotions are all ways to take care of yourself. I offer a safe place to be completely honest. As women we need to support one another.
