Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
When I was in 8th grade we were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up and to do a research project on this career; I chose a psychiatrist having never experienced any form of mental health treatment or therapy at that time. After going to under graduate school to become a teacher and not finding fulfillment in this path, I decided I wanted to help people in a different way...as a therapist. Friends always came to me with their problems and I was told I was a good listener so it felt right. Many years later and I am so glad I made this choice to bring my passion into fruition.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Reaching out is sometimes the hardest part! Therapy is what you make of it. Each therapist is unique in their way of providing therapy. If you go to one and do not like it, try a different therapist and it may be just what you are needing. For me, I try to make clients feel comfortable as if they were talking to a good friend.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
The initial session can feel a bit like an interview as I gain a better understanding of why you are beginning therapy and what you are hoping to achieve. The following sessions feel more like a conversation between friends as we work together to find solutions to current or past problems.
How can you provide care remotely?
I utilize a portal- SessionsHealth for all paperwork that is HIPAA compliant. I utilize a telehealth platform for video/online sessions that is easy and convenient for you.
