How does cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) work and how can it help?

With CBT we focus on how our thoughts impact our feelings and behaviors and vice versa. Using CBT techniques we will tackle one side of this 'triangle', aiming to change either our thoughts or behaviors to change how we feel. CBT uses a lot of thought challenging exercises.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?

For clients with anxiety there are a variety of approaches we can take. A lot of clients find benefit of utilizing skills from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Often times in sessions we will combine CBT and DBT techniques to work on reducing anxious thoughts and behaviors.

How does dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) work and how can it help?

One of the base principals of DBT is that two opposite things can exist at the same time. We practice accepting our feelings and realities, while also utilizing distress tolerance to reduce unhelpful feelings and behaviors.

What do therapy sessions with you look like?

My approach to therapy is to follow my client's lead. Therapy with me is a space for you to use how you feel is most helpful. We will start with exploring what is bringing you in for sessions and continue to focus on what you feel is most important.
