Greetings! I'm Dr. Joshua Werblin, a dedicated psychiatrist with a compassionate approach to care. My practice is a sanctuary for individuals of all ages seeking mental wellness.
My journey began at The University of Chicago, where I delved into the fundamentals of society and its utopian ideals. I took a somewhat circuitous path from there, working in different fields for nearly a decade before starting to study for my medical degree (M.D.) at Tulane University School of Medicine. During those ten years, I worked variously as a biophysicist, wooden boatbuilder, IT support, astrophysics technical work, and an Auxiliary NYPD officer in Harlem.
I completed a Pediatrics Internship at Tulane University, followed by a narrower focus in General Psychiatry Residency training, also at Tulane. I then received subspecialty fellowship training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Seattle Children's Hospital/University of Washington, followed by the acquisition of Addiction Psychiatry sub-specialization some years later.
My career has been diverse, including roles as an Inpatient Psychiatrist, Consult-Liaison Psychiatrist, and several Outpatient Psychiatry positions in New York, Florida, and Maryland. More than half of my career has been spent serving the most underserved and marginalized populations, such as youth and women rescued from the sex trade, runaway youth, homeless families, LGBTQIA++ populations, and undocumented immigrants.
Since 2019, I've been proudly serving as 'The Feelings Doctor' in my solo virtual practice, offering psychiatric care for children, adolescents, adults, and those facing addiction challenges.
My commitment to you is simple: to provide empathetic, individualized, evidence-based care that supports your unique journey toward mental health wellness, whether or not you choose to use medications along the way. Let's work together to navigate life's challenges and embrace the path to healing and fulfillment.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?
My approach to working with clients with anxiety involves a holistic understanding of their symptoms and individual circumstances. I prioritize building a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, validation, and active listening, allowing clients to feel heard and understood. Evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based interventions, are integrated into treatment plans based on the client's preferences and needs. These modalities help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, confront avoidance behaviors, and develop effective coping skills to manage anxiety symptoms. In addition to psychotherapy, medication management may be considered for clients with moderate to severe anxiety, with a focus on selecting the most appropriate and effective pharmacological interventions while minimizing side effects and risks.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I became a therapist because I am deeply passionate about promoting mental health wellness and empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives. My motivation stems from a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others, drawing upon my clinical expertise, empathy, and commitment to evidence-based care. Witnessing my clients overcome obstacles, cultivate resilience, and experience personal growth fuels my dedication to this work, inspiring me to continue supporting others on their journey toward mental health wellness.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
For those hesitant to try therapy, I wish to convey that seeking help is a courageous step toward healing and personal growth. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore challenges, gain insights, and learn coping strategies to navigate life's difficulties more effectively. Beginning therapy may feel daunting, but I'm here to provide compassionate guidance and support every step of the way. Together, we can work towards achieving your goals and improving your overall well-being.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
Individuals considering working with me should know that I approach each client with empathy, respect, and a commitment to their well-being. My diverse background and real-world experiences have shaped my approach to care, allowing me to connect with clients from all walks of life and create individualized treatment plans that honor their unique needs and preferences. I prioritize collaborative decision-making and actively involve clients in the treatment process, empowering them to take an active role in their mental health journey.
What do therapy sessions with you look like?
Psychiatric Evaluation (Adult) - Telehealth - 40 minutes
An initial visit involves a medical history review, an assessment of your specific symptoms and concerns, and possible diagnostic tests to evaluate a patient's health, identify issues, and develop and discuss treatment options.
Follow-up Visit (Adult) - Telehealth - 20 minutes
A follow-up visit involves checking the progress of the patient's treatment plan, assessing any new symptoms or concerns, and adjusting the treatment plan as needed to ensure optimal health outcomes.
Psychiatric Evaluation (Child/Adolescent) - Telehealth - 60 minutes
FOR ALL PATIENTS 17 YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER. An initial visit involves a medical history review, an assessment of your specific symptoms and concerns, and possible diagnostic tests to evaluate a patient's health, identify issues, and develop and discuss treatment options. NOTE: The complexity of these evaluations is often greater than the 60 minutes allow. In these cases, at the end of the first appointment, you may be required to return for a follow-up appointment to complete.
Follow-up Visit (Child & Adolescent) - Telehealth - 20 minutes
FOR ALL PATIENTS 17 YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER. A follow-up visit involves checking the progress of the patient's treatment plan, assessing any new symptoms or concerns, and adjusting the treatment plan as needed to ensure optimal health outcomes.
How do you work with clients with addiction?
My approach to addiction involves a multifaceted strategy that combines evidence-based medical interventions with comprehensive psychotherapeutic support. I prioritize establishing a therapeutic alliance built on trust and empathy to create a safe space for clients to explore their struggles with addiction. This includes conducting thorough assessments to understand the individual's unique needs and circumstances, including any underlying mental health conditions or trauma history. I offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when appropriate, alongside various psychotherapeutic modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Collaborative goal-setting and ongoing monitoring are key components of treatment, allowing for personalized interventions that support sustained recovery.
How can you provide care remotely?
I offer remote psychiatric care through secure telehealth platforms, allowing individuals to access mental health services from the comfort of their own homes. Remote care includes virtual psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy sessions, maintaining the same standards of confidentiality and professionalism as in-person appointments. Through telehealth, I provide personalized and evidence-based care tailored to each individual's needs, ensuring continuity of care and accessibility for those who may face barriers to traditional in-person services.
How do you work with clients with bipolar disorder?
When working with clients with bipolar disorder, I adopt a comprehensive approach that addresses both acute symptoms and long-term management of the condition. I prioritize building a trusting therapeutic relationship to collaboratively navigate the complexities of bipolar disorder and its impact on the individual's life. Psychoeducation plays a crucial role in bipolar disorder treatment, as I provide clients with information about the illness, its symptoms, triggers, and treatment options. Medication management is often a cornerstone of treatment, with a focus on mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and other psychotropic medications as indicated by the client's presentation and treatment history. Additionally, psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychoeducation-focused approaches help clients manage mood symptoms, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop coping strategies for preventing relapse.
