How does cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) work and how can it help?
CBT is a type of talk therapy that helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way. Evidence has shown that CBT can help numerous conditions, such as major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and many others. CBT is generally considered short-term therapy — ranging from about five to 20 sessions.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Therapy isn't complicated--- it is about connection and empathy. You've made the first step by stopping by here. I have over 15 years of experience-- don't wait to get started feeling better.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I want you to come out of therapy feeling relieved, if you've shared something important and felt heard and understood. Energized, if you've started to understand something new about yourself or set yourself a new goal to work on. Motivated, if you have made progress towards your goals or with your relationships. Above all, I want you to feel safe and accepted.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
Sessions are 1-hour sessions (90 minutes for couples) and depending on your needs can be twice a week, weekly, or bi-weekly based on what we determine is the appropriate level of care. The duration of therapy will be determined by your needs and goals as identified by you and me collectively.
How can you provide care remotely?
Virtual therapy is a practical alternative to in-person therapy. I provide online sessions throughout Ohio using encrypted technology that is personalized, private and convenient.
