About Kassie
Hello! I'm the sole therapist of my practice, Dahlia Wellness LLC, founded around the belief that true healing and change requires an environment where one is witnessed non-judgmentally for who they really are. I have extensive experience working with individuals who struggle with low self worth, loss of hope, feelings of anxiety, depression, and the short and long impact of traumatic relationships or experiences. I work with individuals who are struggling with self harm or suicidal ideation, and I am affirming of all gender/sexual identifications and expressions.
What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?
I use CBT, and I have also been trained in trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I find this extremely helpful - the way we think about a thing (especially ourselves!) directly impacts how we feel about it. Many of these thoughts become automatic, but when we are honest about the way we are thinking about things and really examine our beliefs we find that they are not completely true. It's powerful to take control of your thought processes! I help a lot of people learn these skills, but I also find a lot of healing value in more expressive and experiential forms of therapy.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
My path to becoming a therapist was heavily influenced by my own struggles, empathic personality, and desire for healing for myself. The progress that I have made within myself and the progress I witness in my clients - many of them with heavy trauma histories and odds seemingly stacked against them - keeps me motivated to continue to show up and provide genuine connection and an opportunity for growth.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Yikes, I know this feeling. And therapist shopping is so hard! Take a deep breathe. Yes, it's so nerve racking. But truly, I'm sure you have done harder things than this. I KNOW you have. Getting to the first session is one of the hardest steps of the process. Trust your instinct when meeting with someone for the first time. Do you feel heard? Seen? Respected? If not, you don't have to go back! You don't even have to finish the session - you can get up and leave! You will ALWAYS have choice in the process. Good for you for even thinking about going. You can do this!
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
Typically I let my clients dictate where we start - pleasantries? dive right in? follow up from last session? Everyone's style is different and I am flexible. Therapy sessions are casual, connected, and we go at your pace and spend time on the areas that are most important to you.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I will never be mean to you. I truly won't judge you (seriously!). I will be authentic with you. I genuinely connect to my clients. I love nature and brain science, so be prepared to hear about both! I will hold my professional boundaries and I will also respect yours.
