About Kelly

Many people look for something beyond the question, “How does that make you feel?” I hope my sessions can not only act as a sounding board, but also provide a safe space to unload, explore and develop solutions to life’s problems. While my approach to therapy is empathic and compassionate, it is also direct and directive. My goal is to help clients identify the root of potential issues and work collaboratively to construct a solution. My intention is to provide support, problem-solving skills, practical tools and coping strategies to help overcome negative patterns.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help to uncover the underlying causes of your worries and fears by looking at situations in a new, less frightening way. With CBT, you're able to adjust the thoughts that directly influence your emotions and behavior. This adjustment process is referred to as cognitive reconstructing, which happens through different CBT techniques. Most people with clearly defined behavioral and emotional concerns tend to reap the benefits of CBT. In addition, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy has proven highly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. During an EMDR session, you will be guided through a series of eye movements or other types of bilateral stimulation while focusing on a specific traumatic memory or anxiety-provoking situation. This helps to reprocess the negative emotions and beliefs associated with the memory or situation, leading to a reduction in anxiety symptoms.

How do you work with clients with trauma and PTSD?

It is important to seek a therapist who can help you determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs. Trauma and PTSD is highly individual, and there is no "one size fits all" approach. Depending on the client and situation, EMDR therapy has been found to be effective for treating PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. Research studies have shown that EMDR can significantly reduce symptoms of PTSD, such as intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, and anxiety. EMDR can also improve overall functioning and quality of life.

How does eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) work and how can it help?

EMDR therapy is a powerful tool used to alleviate disturbing symptoms related to trauma including anxiety, depression and addiction. With a specialized focus, peak performance can be achieved to improve self-confidence, increase productivity and enhance creativity. During EMDR therapy, specific memories are accessed and combined with eye movements (bilateral stimulation) and guided instruction to help reprocess the negative event. This reprocessing helps flush out the mental injury from that memory. As a result, you will still recall the event but it will not hold the same psychological and physiological charge. Remembering the event will be more manageable. EMDR Therapy has a unique ability to create new, more positive neural pathways, leaving the effects of negative memories of the past behind you.
