Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I became a therapist because I am interested in the 'why' of what makes people tick and how to use their qualities to make their lives better. I don't want to just talk, I want to collaborate so that you have the skills to keep moving forward in life, to keep growing, to accomplish whatever goal you set out to accomplish.
What's your experience with dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)?
I am a Certified DBT therapist and have been using DBT since 2004. I like it because it is focused, skills based, honest, genuine, structured and no-nonsense. There are a ton of skills, and we all need help with some of them. I wish I could teach my DBT group to all college kids - we all need it, and it would have been nice to know it a lot sooner!
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
We could all use a therapist sometimes - a relatively objective person with expertise outside of your who can act as a sounding board and/or an advocate. Everyone needs that!
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I am straightforward, full of information, and goal oriented. Genuineness is my most important value, which means you will get honest reactions and opinions, even when it is uncomfortable. I try to learn something every day, and I hope clients learn something at every session - usually about themselves, but it could be anything!
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

How can you provide care remotely?
If you operate well in a virtual world, virtual therapy can be just as effective as in person sessions.

What's your experience with clients with eating disorders?
Working with clients with body image or food issues, or eating disorders, has been 20 years of interesting, kind, and challenging clients. I enjoy them immensely, and have a lot of training and expertise (CEDS-S) that I am always willing to share with clients and their families. There is so much that goes into an eating disorder, they are so much more than people think! But the clients, too, tend to be so much more than they think they are, and bringing that out is wonderful to see. When someone embraces recovery, and their own self, it is a beautiful thing to be a part of.
