Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I got interested in becoming a therapist because I had friends in junior high and high school who were struggling with mental health issues and I was often the one they would come to. I think everyone should have someone to listen to them and being in a helping profession felt like the right thing for me.
What do therapy sessions with you look like?
For the intake session, I start by talking about how the session will be structured and we end by creating goals and setting up the next session if we feel like it's a good fit. Following sessions, I will ask how things have been between sessions and follow-up on anything we may have talked about happening between sessions and ask if there's anything on your mind. Depending on where that leads, we'll talk from there, or I will refer back to the goals we created and go from there. There's a lot for me to learn about you and I hope to provide you with a lot to think about and practice if that is how you would like to learn.
