Hi and welcome! Searching for a therapist can be challenging and finding someone you will connect with is essential. I am a huge believer in meeting clients where they are at. My goal is to make clients feel safe, supported and heard. I understand that starting therapy can be hard, which is why I prioritize creating a light and relaxed environment. I enjoy using interactive approaches and a little humor to build a solid rapport. After all, therapy should be enjoyable and not a chore. I am newly certified in EMDR and have a huge interest in offering Virtual Reality Therapy into my practice.
How do you work with clients with anxiety?
First of all who doesn't have at least some anxiety? My biggest thing is normalizing these fears or concerns for people. No one wants to feel unique or alone in their journey. Anxiety is common, and can be really scary because it feels so so real! I use a lot of CBT to challenge "what iffing" thinking. I also just listen and allow clients the space to talk about their fears and get them out of their head.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I believe in creating and being a safe space for someone to come and share their story. I am a firm believer on treating every client with respect, kindness and compassion.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
You are SO not alone! This is such a common fear because therapy is intimidating! My advice would be to give it one session with whoever you choose. You will know if it is a good fit or not after one session, it is usually within a few minutes but I am going to be generous here. If you don't feel it is a fit, chances are it isn't, and you keep trying until you find your person.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I am here to make you feel safe and supported. Therapy can be a scary step, but I would love to help you on your healing journey.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
I love this question! I really just tailor my sessions to what my clients want and need. I have worked with a lot of younder adults who need more directives and prompting otherwise they will come to their sessions and not have much to discuss (totally normal), in those cases I usually have some structure to the session and we will be working on something specific. For clients that are verbal and benefit from a talk therapy setup, I really just put the ball in their court and explore with them, allow them to talk while I listen. I take some notes or write questions down on my end that I can come back to later on if needed. Client's like this because I think it shows that I am listening.
