About Lauren

You’re overwhelmed by being everything to everyone. While everyone else sleeps, your mind races with worst case scenarios as you dissect a minor experience from earlier in the day. It’s hard making decisions about even the simplest things. Life just isn’t as much fun as you want. You’ve tried talking to your friends about this stuff, but it never seems to help or change anything. Stacks of self help books go unread on your nightstand and following lifestyle influencers makes your self esteem plummet. Life is hard and it doesn’t come with an instruction manual. You deserve to be truly seen and heard without judgement. Your own answers live within you, and when you reach out for support, I’ll help you find them.

What's your experience with clients with anxiety?

Anxiety tries to be a helpful emotion letting us know when we are in danger, but with too much, we are left in constant distress which impacts daily functioning. Coping skills such as mindfulness and breath work can help reteach the body what it means to feel safe and secure.

What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be super helpful in terms of identifying and understanding your unhelpful thinking patterns. This can create space for then allowing those thoughts to be present while bringing your attention back to other more helpful thoughts.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I became a therapist because my own therapist inspired me! I know what it’s like to sit in the client’s chair and I appreciated the space my therapist held for me while I sorted through my hardships. I continue to do this work because I view it as an honor to be with someone in their vulnerability.

What's your experience with dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)?

Dialectical means holding space for differing thoughts to be true. Skills work allows us a chance to practice emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal relationships.

What's your experience with clients with depression?

Depression makes it hard to do just about anything. The most helpful ways to combat depression is through human connection and meaningful work. This is not change that happens overnight, but change is possible.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

It’s worth a try! Most people think about therapy for a LONG time before their first appointment, and that’s okay. You’ll get there when the time is right for you.

Why is trauma processing important?

Regardless of what caused your trauma, you deserve to heal. The only reason I am able to continue in this profession is because I have regularly seen humans heal from some of the most horrific traumas. When you are ready to process your trauma, it becomes a small chapter in your story rather than the entire story. It becomes something that happened to you, outside of your control, rather than something that defines who you are. Healing is always possible.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

Therapy goes at your pace. I’m here to offer a compassionate guide, gently challenge you at times, but never force my own agenda. This is your safe space. And after doing this work for over ten years, there really is nothing too bad, sad, scary, or embarrassing that you can’t tell me. I really probably have heard it before!

What's your experience with acceptance and commitment (ACT)?

We accept the feelings we have as they arise and we commit ourselves to living the lives we want. Accepting something doesn’t mean we have to like it; it means we acknowledge it is what it is. We focus on the parts we can change and make sure to act in line with our values to create a meaningful life.

What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

I’ll ask you how you’ve been since I’ve last seen you and sometimes that’s enough to fill our full session! If not, I’ll ask if there is something in particular that you want to explore, and if that’s a no as well, then I’ll suggest an experiential exercise or mindfulness activity.

How can you provide care remotely?

Virtual care is as effective as in person care. By using video, I can still read your body language and physical cues. Virtual sessions eliminate the commute and make therapy more accessible. It can be comforting to be in your own space while receiving care.

What's your experience with clients with eating disorders?

I approach eating issues/body image work through a Health At Every Size (HAES) lens. Eating concerns tend to stem from a desire to control, which is a normal human response that has been taken to an extreme. It’s possible to have a healthy relationship with food and your body!

What's your experience working with issues in sex and sexuality?

It’s okay to talk about sex! Sure, it might be embarrassing, but I assure you, I’ve probably heard your concern before. This is a safe space to question and explore your sexuality or views on sex.
