About Melissa

Living with a difference, like a chronic health condition or a disability, can feel challenging at times. As a clinical psychologist specializing in rehabilitation psychology, I help individuals to cope and adapt with chronic illness, and thrive during stressful life changes and transitions. I work with individuals to address psychological issues ranging from mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, to coping with health and life stressors, to navigating body image concerns, visible differences, and overcoming shame and stigmatization.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

Therapy is not as scary as your mind is telling you. It is a collaborative process, where we work together and you are in control every step of the way. My treatment approach is focused on fostering personal growth and awareness, meaning and purpose in life. I am committed to inclusivity and disability advocacy and use affirmative principles that focus on strength and resilience to help individuals feel confident and empowered by their diverse identities.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

I specialize in working with individuals with chronic illness/disabilities who may identify from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. I have advanced training providing culturally-sensitive clinical services across various medical settings. My specialty areas include autoimmune disorders (e.g. alopecia, multiple sclerosis) and physical disabilities. I am a clinical psychologist who solely practices via tele-therapy using a HIPAA compliant platform. The benefits are huge, allowing us to work together face-to-face while increasing accessibility, flexibility, and comfort.
