What's your experience with children or adolescents?
I have extensive experience working with adolescents—-in the inpatient hospital setting, schools and private practice.
What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?
I utilize CBT for many of the presenting issues. Many clients are unaware of their negative self-talk which comes out in depression and/or anxiety. Reframing the negative self-talk can result in a more positive outlook.
What's your experience with clients with anxiety?
I believe working with clients experiencing anxiety is one of my specialties. I believe it’s important to teach clients what anxiety is, where it comes from and develop skills to address it.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I think everyone wants to have a purpose. I find it quite inspiring when I see a client progressing, knowing I had a part in that. This is what motivates be to continue—-to help where I can.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
While it takes a great deal of courage to begin and participate in therapy, I think staying stuck in unhealthy and often times destructive patterns feels worse.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I try to use a blend of humor, support and directness with a primary focus on clients feeling heard and understood.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
Clients typically bring issues to the session—-perhaps things that have transpired over the week. Other times clients may want to use the session to target particular patterns that are holding them back. We then talk about healthier strategies or tools to enact change.
How can you provide care remotely?
I enjoy remote therapy as clients are in the privacy of their home where they are typically more relaxed and comfortable. Clients appreciate the greater accessibility with no commute!
What's your experience with family or marital Therapy?
I have extensive training in couples and family therapy. I like to emphasize improving communication skills so that each feels heard (as opposed to always hoping for agreement).
