About Mike

I've worked in various roles throughout my life. I started as a performing artist. I grew and learned a lot from that experience -- as I have from all of my roles -- but wanted to explore other interests. That included corporate management and leadership roles for 18+ years and going to graduate school. Ultimately I've landed on my feet in a field that truly fits my skills, my passion and what feels like a calling. I believe my varied background gives me an edge in understanding a lot of different life paths. I offer that to my patients.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I've always been the person friends and family came to when they wanted to talk through something on their mind. So, I guess I've always been oriented to listening and supporting. I really enjoy the work with my patients--that's whay keeps me going.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

I'm here to listen and support you. I don't blame you or ridicule you for the difficult choices you've had to make in your life. I want to understand how you think and feel about your life. This way I can help you see yourself more completely. Honestly, therapy is hard and it takes a commitment. But when you have a supportive therapist, it's manageable.

What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

You set the pace of our work together. Basically, what is required is that you show up and talk about what comes to mind. At some sessions, there will be something specific on your mind. At other times, you may feel like you're not sure what to talk about. That's ok. That's part of the process for us to explore.

How does psychoanalytic therapy work and how can it help?

Therapy based on a psychoanalytic frameword is rooted in the philosophy that we are all products of our lives--what we've experienced and been through--it shapes us and how we experience the world around us. The process is to reflect on how you show up in life and how you make decisions and choices about the quality of your life.
