How do you work with clients with anxiety?

When working with clients who have anxiety, my approach focuses on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where they feel heard and understood. We start by exploring how anxiety shows up in their life, identifying specific triggers, thoughts, and physical symptoms. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize and challenge the thoughts that contribute to their anxiety, gradually replacing them with more constructive patterns. Additionally, we might integrate mindfulness practices to help manage anxiety in the moment, as well as techniques like deep breathing or grounding exercises to reduce physical symptoms. For clients who need it, we can discuss medication options as a supplementary tool for relief. Each person’s experience with anxiety is unique, so I’m collaborative in my approach, adapting strategies based on what feels most effective and empowering for them. Over time, my goal is for clients to feel more in control, less reactive to anxiety, and ultimately more resilient in facing life’s challenges.

How do you work with clients with depression?

With clients experiencing depression, I take a compassionate, patient-centered approach, recognizing that depression affects each person differently. We start by exploring how depression impacts their daily life, relationships, and sense of self. I focus on building a strong, trusting relationship, providing a safe space where they feel comfortable discussing difficult emotions. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify negative thought patterns that may contribute to their depression, working together to reframe these thoughts into more balanced, hopeful perspectives. Additionally, we may incorporate behavioral activation, which encourages clients to engage in activities that bring them a sense of accomplishment or joy, even when motivation feels low.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

For those who are hesitant about therapy, I’d say that therapy is a safe space where you can be your truest self without fear of judgment. It’s like having someone in your corner who helps you unravel your thoughts and emotions, empowering you to understand them more deeply. Therapy isn’t just for those in crisis—it’s also a valuable tool for personal growth, self-discovery, and resilience building. People often fear that talking about their struggles might make them feel worse, but in reality, confronting these feelings with a compassionate professional can bring relief and perspective. Therapy offers you a toolkit to better manage life’s challenges and ultimately helps you understand and honor your unique story. You don’t need to wait until things feel unbearable to seek support; therapy is here to help you create the life you want, with someone who genuinely cares about your journey.
