What's your experience with relationship counseling?

Couples who work with me experience increased communication, trust, consideration, and transparency, which reinforces intimacy. Through my work with couples, I use a variety of techniques to strengthen relationships. As part of my approach, I identify exploratory and relationship-building activities outside of sessions that facilitate communication and intimacy between couples. Thus, I facilitate the demonstration of appreciation between clients during sessions, which highlights why they chose each other despite presenting challenges; and I teach clients how to "lay rose petals" to support difficult communication… And I emphasize the importance of understanding how individual challenges can affect relationships, as well as how working on oneself can benefit a couple's relationship.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

Having a passion for understanding people's thoughts and feelings and being able to help them through difficult times led me to become a therapist. Over the past few years, it has become clear that the need for support has increased and that access to support is unequal. Seeing these disparities has further affirmed my commitment to this work, and I will strive to support everyone I can.

Why is trauma processing important?

Throughout my experience as a therapist, I find that recognizing, acknowledging, and empathizing with my client's life experiences is necessary for providing effective care. Particularly, trauma processing proves essential in supporting my clients with developing the skills to cope with the ways trauma still manifests in their life so that panic, fear, and despair become less frequent.
