About Nic
Hi! I'm Nic Dahlberg (he/him) and I am a LMHC in the state of Washington. I provide therapy services as a contractor for Seagate Psychological Services. How are you? Because in a world where unprecedented events are happening on the daily, it's likely you're feeling a teensy bit (or a lot a bit) overwhelmed, out of control and lost. I help people deal with all sorts of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, oppression related stressors and identity issues. In therapy, I strive to create a casual, warm atmosphere where you'll feel comfortable sharing your honest answer to "so, how's life?" We'll dig deep into the heavy stuff and the challenges you face with the seriousness they deserve while also incorporating a bit of joy and humor along the way. I practice ACT and EMDR as my primary modalities.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
Growing up, my parents strongly emphasized the value of giving back to others and trying our best to help make the world a little better for all of us. I strongly believe in the power of therapy to heal and to help people find hope again in their lives. I am strongly motivated to try and be a part of the solution instead of the problem in the world today and I believe that starts with empathy, courage, vulnerability and respect.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Finding a new therapist can be really daunting and overwhelming sometimes. It takes a lot of courage and strength to reach out for help with your mental health. I would say that every therapist has to work to build trust with you and I strongly believe that I have to create an atmosphere to help you feel safe and comfortable exploring difficult things. For our first few meetings, please consider them an interview of me to see if we are a good fit for each other and I am always open to honest feedback.
Why is trauma processing important?
I am trained in EMDR, a powerful technique that uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain speed up the process of healing from traumatic memories and experiences. Symptoms of trauma can be so burdensome and problematic in people's lives and it can be exhausting dealing with these symptoms day in and out. I have seen EMDR work well as an effective and efficient technique to help people just feel better and be able to freely live their lives again.
