How do you work with clients with trauma and PTSD?
I recognize that trauma is universal. For clients with a significant trauma history, they must feel safe and secure to open up. Most often, individuals with trauma are living in constant fear. As a therapist, it is my job to provide them with emotional security. Similarly, I also want my clients to gain back control of their lives. I enjoy assisting clients in identifying their strengths and triumphs that are necessary to help lay down the foundation for a more positive story going forward.
How does child or adolescent therapy work and how can it help?
When meeting with children and adolescents, I describe therapy to them as having a safe person to talk with. I often highlight that once they have established some rapport with me, then we can work on developing tools and strategies to help them deal with situations in their lives. Therapy can be scary for kiddos, so I make sure that it is a comfortable environment where they can be themselves. Once this environment is established, we can begin to process situations.
