About Rhiannon
Hi! I’m Rhiannon Garcia-Penning, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (153386) and founder of Solful Therapy. I believe in the importance of authentic connection, not only in our relationships with others but also with ourselves. I use the therapeutic space to promote growth, healing, help you explore parts of yourself or relationships and model how to deepen these connections and create new ones. I enjoy integrating some holistic practices in the therapeutic space to support with your wellness.
How does couples therapy work and how can it help?
Couples therapy is a space for the relationship to grow and also gives opportunity for individual partners to witness each other's growth. I believe that while couples may go to therapy to improve their relationship and feel more connected to their partner, there is still a significant amount of individual learning and growing that happens.
What do therapy sessions with you look like?
Sessions with me are rooted in connection. I use the therapeutic space as a model for interpersonal connection and to support my clients with increasing their connection with self. I truly believe that the therapy space is yours and like to collaborate with you on how to best support you heal and grow.
How do you work with clients with women's issues?
I view the world from a feminist lens and like to use various resources and tools to support women with increasing their connection to their resilience and power.
How does sex therapy work and how can it help?
Sex therapy is a form of psychotherapy that can integrate various styles to increase sexual wellness, decrease sexual dysfunction or compulsive sexual behaviors by exploring thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and values that impact your sexual identity. Our sexual identities are rooted in our culture, community, values, and what we believe about ourselves and what it means to be in partnership with others. Our current sexual identities may seem to clash with the values that were given to us, or with our partners’ beliefs. Life transitions, stress, and unsafe experiences may further shift our ability to connect with our partners and ourselves authentically. My goal is to help you explore the values, beliefs, and experiences that informed your sexual self and increase wellness to allow for meaningful intimacy.
How do you work with clients with pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum issues?
The perinatal period is all about reconnection-with our bodies, our minds, our partners, and building a relationship with this new human that has joined our lives! This is a vulnerable time of life and can become more challenging when birth trauma, lack of sleep, depression, and anxiety come into play. My goal in perinatal therapy is to remain at your side as you learn to integrate this new identity into your already whole self.
