About Rotem

Hello, My name is Rotem and I'm looking forward to meeting you. I have been a practicing therapist for the past 11 years and in that time I have learned that the therapeutic relationship is a pivotal part of my clients growth. I take pride in the fact that I create a safe and supportive environment for my clients to openly discuss the challenges they are experiencing. I've treated a variety of different concerns including mood disorders, anxiety, substance abuse treatment, and perinatal mental health. If you have been struggling with changes to your mood, low energy, grief and loss, anxiety, relationship issues, or just simply don't feel like yourself please feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to help.

What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

CBT is a versatile therapeutic approach that helps clients sort through how their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors intertwine and impact the way they show up in their own lives. I've used this technique often to help clients identify specific patterns in their behavior and the messages they receive that have impacted their decision making.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I started on my path when I realized the complexities involved in facilitating change. I found the process of guiding others on their journeys to wellness rewarding. What motivates me is to watch my clients blossom and realize their full potential.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

Therapy is simply working with a neutral person within a safe environment so that you can create the solutions you seek. You are the expert on yourself, a good therapist simply helps you sort through things in order for you to push past the emotional roadblocks that have prevented you from experiencing life authentically.

Why is trauma processing important?

We carry trauma in our bodies. Whether we are cognizant of it or not our past experiences have shaped our responses to the world around us and how we respond to our relationships. Trauma that is left untreated is like a tangled web that traps unwanted barriers that reinforce reestablished negative beliefs. Processing this trauma help you untangle the web.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

I have worked with individuals, couples, and families. I've worked with substance abuse treatment centers where I was exposed to a variety of different factors and mental illness that played a role in my clients overall challenges and well being. Unraveling the complexities of their experiences whether it be through past trauma's or difficulties processing life changes has helped shape my therapeutic approach. My expertise gradually included advanced training in perinatal mental health. I've taken a particular interest in working with families struggling with the challenges of conception, adjustment to parenthood, adoption, and postpartum illness. I became passionate about working with this population while I was in the process of starting my own family and found that being of support to other families has been incredibly rewarding.

What does a typical session with you tend to look like?

Your first session will be an opportunity for me to get to know you so that we collaborate on a treatment plan that is unique to you. I will gather information and work with you to decide what your ultimate goals are. Every session will give you the opportunity to process challenges you have experienced, insights gained, and interventions you can implement in order to achieve your goals.

How do you work with clients with addiction?

I've worked with addiction for 11 years. There is a strong correlation between mental health and substance abuse. Often times clients struggling with addiction have experienced past trauma, family of origin issues, a sense of low self worth, and difficulties regulating emotions and impulses. To put it simply, an addict is often stigmatized and misunderstood. Often a product of their environment with little resources made available to them. Treating substance abuse involves challenging distorted beliefs and helping the client find healthy support and coping skills to function independently. To be successful in recovery an addict must commit to the "three C's". Confront the lie, Confirm the truth, So Change can occur.

How can you provide care remotely?

There are many HIPAA compliant platforms that allow therapists interact with their clients virtually. This has been an extremely useful tool in reaching clients in lieu of the global COVID 19 pandemic.

What's your experience with family or marital Therapy?

I have worked with couples and families within a perinatal mental health environment. I've worked with couples struggling with infertility, early parenthood, complicated pregnancy experiences, infant loss, and postpartum mental illness. Both mothers and fathers struggle equally with the changes that come with parenthood and I've enjoyed helping them work together in order to thrive as a family unit.
