Hi, my name is Shanice! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate (LCAS-A). I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a certification in Addiction Studies from North Carolina Central University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Elizabeth City State University. I am currently pursuing a PhD. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Hampton University.
I am originally from New Jersey; however I have been in North Carolina for so long, I consider myself as a native. I currently reside in Johnston County, NC and spend most of my days creating memories with my family, playing with my toy poodle or following through with a countless number of books that further provide a wealth of knowledge about mental health awareness and wellness.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I became a therapist because I believe in creating a space of awareness for individuals to become knowledgeable and comfortable about mental health. Being a therapist means being able to reduce the stigma associated with mental health, help individuals overcome obstacles and learn the necessary skills to promote healing.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
The connotation associated with trying therapy may not always be the most positive, however, therapy can be beneficial for everyone. Hesitancy to try therapy is natural and you will feel a lot of feelings and thoughts about it. Therapy is helpful to learn new coping skills and manage daily stressors.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
A typical session starts with rapport building, history gathering and creating goals for treatment. Follow up session will include reviewing any highs and lows of the week; reviewing any previous skills from the former session and learning techniques and mechanisms for new challenges as they related to your goals.
