About Shannon
I help teens and young adults who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck. Using ACT and IFS, I support insight, healing, and change in a down-to-earth, collaborative space. Outside of sessions, you’ll find me reading, working with clay, or exploring with my husband, two dogs, and our cat.
How does child or adolescent therapy work and how can it help?
Therapy gives kids and teens a space to talk, feel heard, and figure things out without pressure. We explore what’s going on beneath the surface like anxiety, stress, or big emotions and build tools to help them cope, connect, and grow. It’s about feeling understood and learning how to navigate life with more confidence.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I became a therapist because it’s who I needed when I was younger. Someone who listens, gets it, and doesn’t judge. What keeps me going is seeing clients reconnect with themselves, trust their voice, and realize they don’t have to go through life alone.
How do you work with clients with anxiety?
We start by getting curious about how anxiety shows up for you, whether it’s racing thoughts, avoidance, tension, or something else. I use approaches like ACT and IFS to help you understand what’s driving the anxiety and build tools to respond differently. Over time you feel more in control and less ruled by fear or overwhelmed.
How do you work with clients with stress?
We look at what’s causing the stress and how it’s showing up in your life like burnout, irritability, or feeling stuck. Together we untangle the pressure, build tools to cope, and find ways to create more space, clarity, and calm. You don’t have to push through it alone. We’ll slow things down and figure it out step by step.
How can you provide care remotely?
Remote therapy lets us meet by video so you can talk from a space that feels safe and familiar like your room or car. You don’t need anything fancy, just a quiet spot and a solid connection. It’s normal to feel unsure at first but we’ll go at your pace and make the space work for you.
How does acceptance and commitment (ACT) work and how can it help?
ACT helps you notice difficult thoughts and feelings without getting stuck in them. Instead of trying to avoid or fix everything, you learn to respond in ways that align with your values. Over time, ACT builds self-awareness, flexibility, and the ability to move forward.
How does internal family systems (IFS) work and how can it help?
IFS helps you understand the different parts of yourself like the inner critic, the people pleaser, or the anxious part. Instead of fighting these parts, we get curious about them. As you build a more compassionate relationship with each part, you feel more balanced, less stuck, and more connected to your true self.
